What is a corn?

Лечение на кокоши трън

Everyone has had calluses caused by uncomfortable shoes at some point. And although corns are classified among calluses, they actually represent a type of wart caused by one of the types of human papillomavirus. They most often appear on the fingers and toes or on the surface of the heels, and very rarely can affect other parts of the body.

How and why do they appear?

Human skin is covered with a multilayered flat epithelium – the epidermis, whose main function is protection. The cells of the surface layer of the epidermis form a horny substance called keratin. It protects the body from the entry of harmful substances. If your shoes cause prolonged discomfort, this can lead to the indentation of part of the epidermis inward and hardening of the skin around it, and the causative virus makes this skin grow. The accumulated horny layer begins to resemble a yellowish corn stuck in the sole. Pressure on it when stepping is extremely painful because it pushes it even deeper. The soles are subjected to constant pressure from the body's weight and friction against the hard surface of the shoes, which is why they most often suffer from corns.

How to recognize it?

What is a corn? A corn is a type of wart, a growth, caused by the human papillomavirus. In most cases, it is the size of a pea. In appearance, it looks like a callused yellowish formation, and in its center there is a small pinpoint spot. In hardness and color, it resembles a chicken's foot, which is where its name comes from.

How to remove a corn?

Is there a cure for corns? Early treatment of the problem is extremely important, while the corn is still relatively small. Over time, it can enlarge and even spread to several “foci,” which can complicate and delay treatment.

The most commonly used method for destroying (removing) a corn is cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. The surface of the corn is abraded, aiming to reach the base of the corns. Therefore, several (3-4) procedures are usually necessary. Many patients complain about the recurrence of corns in the same places, for example, a repeated corn on the heel, due to insufficiently deep treatment and “cutting out” of the entire area.

Another popular method for treating and removing calluses and corns is patches. There are many types of corn patches, most of which contain the same active ingredients but in low concentration. The goal of the patches, similar to liquid nitrogen, is to burn the corn to the root.

Of course, you can find countless “home remedies” on the internet for treating and removing corns, but many of them are either a fortunate coincidence or have unproven beneficial effects. You may encounter advice for compresses with oil, vinegar, potatoes, onions, but we advise you to leave these products in the kitchen and trust modern medical cosmetics with clinically proven effects.

The product from biotrade – Keratolin gel for calluses with salicylic acid is a dermatological solution for the corn problem. The special gel for removing calluses, hardened skin, and corns effectively removes thickened skin as well as accumulated dead horny cells after 7-10 days of use.
