Four facts about sweating

Интересни факти за изпотяването

Regardless of the season and the amount of clothing we wear, the desire to feel good in our body determines our mood, self-confidence, and reactions. Our daily life presents all kinds of situations, some of which directly trigger a visible physiological reaction of the body – heavy sweating under the armpits, accompanied by wet stains on the clothes. Since we all sweat and this is a natural function of the body, how can we deal with sweating? biotrade offers a very effective, small-quantity, safe, and comfortable solution even for heavy body sweating – the Odorex series – against sweating of the armpits and feet.

But let's start from the beginning.

What is sweat?

Sweating is a natural body climate control process through which it cools itself. This is not only useful but very important for the normal functioning of the body, especially during physical exertion or hot weather – the release of sweat removes heat from the body and prevents overheating. Sweat consists of 99% water but also contains small amounts of carbohydrates, salts, proteins, and urea. By itself, it does not smell, but contact with bacteria on the skin surface causes the specific odor. Due to its composition, sweat also has beneficial functions that help hydrate and form the skin’s water-lipid mantle.

The human body has about 2 to 4 million sweat glands all over the body, which are of two types – eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine glands are most densely located on the face, palms, and soles. They work continuously, releasing a clear watery fluid without odor, with the amount of sweat depending greatly on temperature, physical and emotional state, and body weight.

Apocrine glands are mainly located in the armpit and genital areas. They produce a thicker secretion which, thanks to bacteria on the skin, emits the specific odor we all try to get rid of.

An interesting fact is that there are between 25,000 and 45,000 sweat glands in the armpits, which is only 1% of the total number on the body. But they cause us the most serious discomfort on a daily basis, especially during the summer months and stressful situations.

When is sweating a problem?

Excessive sweating is a condition where the armpits, palms, and soles sweat without physical exertion, heat, or stress. Overactive sweat glands produce much larger amounts of sweat. For example, if the average values for armpits are 14 mg/minute for men and 9 mg/minute for women, then excessive sweating is over 20 mg for men and 10 mg for women per minute. This condition is called hyperhidrosis (or heavy sweating).

You may have heavy sweating if you often notice large wet stains (over 5 cm in diameter) in the armpit area without being physically active. You may also experience sudden sweating without cause on your palms, fingers, soles, and/or face. Your socks may also be wet without having run or been at the gym.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that can be easily controlled with aluminum salt-based antiperspirants, which offer long-lasting and safe sweat control.

Why don’t regular deodorants work?

Deodorants do not affect the amount of sweat produced. Most contain perfume to mask unpleasant odors but do not influence the sweating process.

How do antiperspirants work?

Antiperspirants are the first and fastest solution to the problem of heavy sweating, as they are a safe, effective, and non-invasive method for sweat control. They are the most thoroughly researched ingredient in cosmetics and have been proven completely safe over time.

Antiperspirants contain aluminum salts and are applied only in the evening to the skin surface, unlike deodorants which are applied throughout the day. Once on the skin, sweat carries the aluminum salts, dissolves them, and they enter the sweat gland opening, forming a gel-like plug on its surface. When the body receives a signal that this gland is blocked, it stops the sweat flow to it and the gland ceases to be overactive. The plug remains in place for several days and gradually washes off the skin. The duration for which sweating is blocked depends on individual characteristics, the degree of sweating, and the amount of aluminum salts applied.

Odorex Deo and Odorex Foot are long-lasting antiperspirants – between 10 and 14 days. The unique mechanism of action of Odorex blocks only overactive sweat glands without affecting the body's overall thermoregulation. It blocks sweating and unpleasant odor of the hands and feet from the first use, without the need for daily application. The effect is maintained with one spray every 10-14 days.

The effectiveness of Odorex, as with any other antiperspirant, depends on strictly following the application instructions. Namely – Odorex is applied only in the evening and only on perfectly dry and healthy armpits, palms, or feet. This ensures its full effect and prevents skin irritation.

Sometimes it is difficult to measure whether sweating is normal or excessive, but the embarrassment and discomfort it causes definitely negatively affect quality of life and self-esteem. Thanks to modern research and the products from the Odorex series, everyone can forget about sweating and the discomfort it causes and enjoy life without worrying about wet stains or unpleasant odor.
